Henry Purcell, the great genius of the baroque music era in England, created an operatic masterpiece with his Dido and Aeneas. The plot revolves around the love affair between Dido, queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, a Trojan prince. This intensely powerful love story culminates with the famous aria When I am laid.
