Jean-Jacques Nattiez - What is Inuit Music?

Lecture

Guest curator of the exhibition Music Born of the Cold, the ethnomusicologist Jean-Jacques Nattiez will show how the Inuit represented their music through their sculptures and engravings. We will discover that the two main genres - drum dancing and throat singing - are musically very different but possess, nonetheless, common characteristics, such as the demonstration of endurance and the spirit of competition, which in turn allows us to speak of a characteristic Inuit music.

Presented in French.

In connection with the exhibition TUSARNITUT! Music Born of the Cold

In collaboration with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

Major Benefactor: Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne

The lecture will take place at the Maxwell Cummings Auditorium.
