About
In Indigenous culture, human beings are seen as only one small part of nature, equal with the animals, plants, elements, sun and moon. Nowadays, many of us live in cities, seemingly far from nature. But are we really that far from it? Can we somehow keep that connection? What is our relationship with the natural world in an urban environment? Through traditional Indigenous and contemporary dance and music, Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo tries to bring new relationships between ourselves, the city and Mother Earth.
Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo has been a dancer and choreographer for over 25 years and has received many awards. Combining traditional Indigenous dance with contemporary styles, she takes great pride in sharing her culture through her choreographic works, which she has performed across Canada and in the United States, including at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Ottawa’s National Art Centre, Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, the Prismatic Arts Festival in Halifax, the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona and the Gathering of Nations Powwow in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
