Schubert and Beethoven

Schubert and Beethoven both found themselves in Vienna in the early 19th century. Although the two never met, their music contains striking examples of their shared musical lineage—while also revealing profound differences. Schubert was no stranger to Beethoven’s shadow, but he found his own light.
