Lesson #2 - Cinematography

How does the camera tell a story? VERTIGO reveals how movement, lenses, and camera effects shape our experience of a film. This session explores the language of cinematography through Alfred Hitchcock’s innovative use of technique, including the famous dolly zoom.

Synopsis

A former San Francisco police detective has retired after an incident in the line of duty caused him to develop an extreme fear of heights, accompanied by vertigo. He is then hired as a private investigator to report on the strange behavior of an acquaintance's wife, who he falls in love with.

Cinéma du Musée is proud to announce the launch of FILM 101, a new series dedicated to film appreciation and education.

Designed for aspiring cinephiles, lifelong students, and lovers of classic cinema, FILM 101 presents five films that explore the language of the seventh art.

Throughout the series, participants will discover fundamental elements of cinematic language and develop the tools needed to better observe, analyze, and discuss the art of filmmaking. Each screening will be accompanied by a short introduction to provide context on the subject, followed by an informal discussion to deepen the analysis and connect with fellow film lovers.
